Susan Marrs is a Mezzo Soprano and graduated from Trinity College of Music, London, where she studied voice with Hazel Wood, after winning The Ricordi Opera Prize and The Trinity College Singing Department Prize.
Susan works extensively as a concert soloist and her wide oratorio repertoire includes performances of Elgar’s major works, Verdi’s “Requiem”, Dvorak’s “Stabat Mater”, Mozart’s “C Minor Mass”, Bach’s “Mass in B Minor” and “St. Matthew Passion”, Rossini’s “Petite Messe Solennelle” and “Stabat Mater”, Prokofiev’s “Alexander Nevsky” and Karl Jenkins’s “The Armed Man”.
As a member of the extra chorus of The Royal Opera, Covent Garden and as a member of London Voices Susan has enjoyed singing in concert halls all over the world – Ligeti’s “Requiem” at the Berlin Philharmonie and Ligeti’s “Lux Aeterna” in Lucerne, Handel’s “Messiah” at the St. Denis Festival in Paris, Kaija Saariaho’s “La Passion de Simone” at the Lincoln Centre, New York and Britten’s “War Requiem” and opera “Peter Grimes” in Shanghai and Beijing.
Susan made her Proms debut at The Royal Albert Hall in 2002 in De Falla’s “La Vide Breve” and has also enjoyed solo concerts at venues including The Barbican, The Royal Academy of Music, the splendid cathedrals of Arundel, Liverpool and Chester, and in Shrewsbury Abbey. Susan has sung with choirs around the UK including Bournemouth Bach Choir at Christchurch Priory, Liverpool Welsh Choral at St George’s Hall, Liverpool and Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and Edinburgh Bach Choir.
Susan sings with “London Voices” under the direction of Ben Parry and, as well as numerous concerts, has enjoyed recording with Sir Paul McCartney, Angela Gheorghiu, Thomas Hampson and Dave Brubeck amongst others.
In addition she has sung on the soundtracks to films including the “Harry Potter” films, “Star Wars I, II and III”, “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy and “The Hobbit”, “Exodus: Gods and Kings” and “The Hunger Games”.
Susan has studied conducting with Susan Hollingworth DUniv BEM and has completed the ABCD Initial Conducting Course.
Susan is a Fellow of Trinity College, London.
